Target shooting DNR land
« on: January 04, 2012, 10:52:38 AM »
I didnt know where to put this, feel free to move it if it needs to be moved, I heard that you can target shoot near Lake cacanaugh in the DNR land. Is this true? From what I read on the DNR sight, it says as long as you don't litter, no shooting over roads, etc. and use comercially produced targets its ok.

In the lake cavanaugh news letter I found said something about illegal shooting on DNR land. Just need some clarifiation on it its ok to shoot.

Also any recommendations on other places to legally target shoot for free would be great
Thanks

Walker valley ORV park is adjacent to that road on the N side... No shooting there. There is no good place that i know of on that road that has a good backstop that is safe and legal to shoot. There is one place Off Hwy 9 just south of the Big Lake on the E side of the RD. I is DNR property and many people shoot there. There is a good backstop and you are able to park near it. MAKE SURE TO PICK UP ALL TRASH! Most of the area that i used to shoot near lake Cavanaugh is now baricaded with rocks stumps and Eco blocks.  I used to shoot skeet off the Oso Cavanaugh rd until they closed off the spur on the side of the mt. There also used to be a small pit that i shot at. Now all baricated up with no parking available. Narrow rd. Too much trash closes EVERYTHING down.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
